Highlights: FC Barcelona 3-1 Rayo Vallecano - Barca Blaugranes (blog)

They say you must keep your friends close, and your enemies closer; but I think there's also an excellent argument for maintaining a thirteen point gap over your arch-rivals. Following Real Madrid's 5-2 win over Real Mallorca on Saturday, Barcelona needed a win to extend the space back again to thirteen points; and they usually required, working out comfortable 3-1 winners against Rayo Vallecano. The visitors maintained several shots on Jose Manuel Pinto's goal, but the most of these shots were risky efforts from long-range, meaning that they'd no answer when Barcelona eventually opened the score through David Villa. Starting four fits in succession for the very first time since breaking his shin against Al-Sadd, this opportunity have been grabbed by Villa with both hands; creating a life-threatening alliance with Lionel Messi. Despite speculation that both do not see eye-to-eye, it is clear that Messi relishes the opportunity to play alongside El Guaje - and vice versa, just look finally night's match for proof. There might have been bad news in the form of an accident for Adriano, and Barca couldn't keep their third consecutive clean linen, but overall, this is a great performance; a that moves the Blaugrana three points closer to reclaiming their title.
