No. 9 Miami beats UNC 87-77 for 1st ACC name

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) a Shane Larkin and ninth-ranked Miami will have the program's first Atlantic Coast Conference tournament title to go with its first regular-season title. Larkin won a career-high 28 points, seven coming in the ultimate 2A minutes, to help No. 9 Miami take away late to beat Vermont 87-77 in Sunday's ultimate. Trey McKinney Jones included a 20 for the top-seeded Hurricanes (27-6), including the go-ahead 3-pointer from the left corner with 6:27 left that began Miami's final push to secure the program's first ACC tournament title. In a good back-and-forth game filled with big shots, the Hurricanes eventually slowed P.J. Hairston and the third-seeded Tar Heels (24-10) enough down the stretch to secure what amounted to a road gain before UNC's home-state audience. Hairston scored 28 details and had six of the Tar Heels' 13 3-pointers, probably the most in the program's event record. Nonetheless it wasn't enough to secure UNC's first ACC title since 2008 or coach Roy Williams' 700th career victory. Larkin was plumped for the tournament's most valuable player after concluding whilst the runner-up for league player of the year to Virginia Tech's Erick Green. But Larkin was at his most readily useful when the Hurricanes needed him in a small game to complete their surprise work from being picked fifth in preseason to ACC winner. Ohio shot 51 % and built 12 of 22 3-pointers, six coming from McKinney Jones and four from Larkin. Arkansas also employed its size advantage against North Carolina's four-guard selection to take a 36-28 rebounding advantage that led to 13 second-chance points. The Hurricanes undoubtedly needed just of it to defeat the Tar Heels for a third time this year. Miami had blown out New York by 26 factors in February but did not set that one away before final minutes. Larkin drove by Dexter Strickland for a and a lead, then McKinney Jones struck again with a from the left part off a feed from Rion Brown that forced the edge to 79-71 with 1:36 left a the Hurricanes' greatest lead of your day to that position. Larkin also went 6-for-6 at the foul line to help keep Miami in control.
