SAN JOSE -- The Earthquakes have passed on English midfielder John Bostock significantly less than a week before they open the Major League Soccer season. Instructor Frank Yallop mentioned Tuesday the signing of star striker Chris Wondolowski played a vital position in the decision to allow Bostock go back to Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premier League. The Quakes had expected to sign the midfielder to a loan offer similar to Simon Dawkins the past 2 yrs. Dawkins is on loan from Tottenham enjoying for the EPL's Aston Villa in 2010. The staff introduced Tuesday it signed Wondolowski to a chosen player contract. While staff officers didn't reveal information on the deal in addition they didn't challenge a written report from SI.com that it'll net the league's ruling MVP $600,000 this season. The alleged selected person status allows groups to cover around three people on the salary cap without having to be punished. Yallop said signing Bostock could have been "too big a gamble for us. It did not work out financially." The Earthquakes wish to have some economic wiggle room for a mid-season exchange should they need to produce a change. San Jose is starting the growing season without regulars Mehdi Ballouchy (divided ACL), Steven Beitashour (sports hernia fix), Marvin Chavez (MCL strain), Alan Gordon (foot surgery) and Steven Lenhart (knee surgery).
