Transfers - Chelsea FC To Land Cristian Cuevas In The Summer - The Hard Tackle

Cristian Cuevas was on trial at Chelsea in 2012, but the Chilean midfielder eventually returned to his native club O'Higgins. The 17-year-old came up through the ranks of the Chilean club since joining their youth academy in 2007 and he made his first team debut back in 2011.

Cuevas produced some impressive performances during the South American U-20 championship held in January, where Chile finished fourth in the final group stages. A lot of European clubs were monitoring his progress and now it seems Chelsea have landed the highly rated teenager.

The London club have reportedly agreed a fee of $2,6 million with O'Higgins for the sale Cuevas, who is also known as 'Cimby' in his nation. Cuevas is expected to feature in the upcoming U-20 World Cup, to be held at Turkey, and the youngster is expected to join his new club in June.

"The Under 20 World Cup will come in the middle of the year and I hope to be in the squad and play some minutes as I really want to. If I play the World Cup, I'll then go to England. Otherwise I'll go there in June." – Cuevas was quoted in press.

It seems like Chelsea have landed a promising youngster at bargain price, but it is yet to be seen how he develops at Stamford Bridge and how much of first team opportunities he receives.
