Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has added Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld to his shopping list of potential summer signings, according to Tutto Mercato.
The Belgian centre-back is expected to quit the Amsterdam ArenA at the end of the season, having stalled on signing an extension to his current contract, which expires in 2014.
Alderwiereld is believed to be waiting to weigh up his options, dependent on the offers which come his way – and the stopper will not be short of suitors.
He has been strongly linked with following in the footsteps of former Ajax team-mate Jan Vertonghen, who swapped the Dutch club for Tottenham Hotspur last summer, while Arsenal have also been mooted as a potential destination.
Ferguson, who is well aware of Nemanja Vidic's injury problems, while another of his centre-backs, in Rio Ferdinand, is 34 years old, is considering Alderweireld seriously.
