Charles Woodson: Signing with Raiders May be Fitting Conclusion to Position.

A bring back to the Oakland Raiders will possibly not bring Charles Woodson any nearer to another Super Bowl, but signing with that franchise that originally drafted him is a fitting conclusion to her Hall of Fame job.

Once a key component of the Raiders' revival inside the early 2000s, Woodson could now help accelerate an even more daunting rebuild by using a veteran defender with championship experience with the locker room.

A really return appears to already have the works. The Raiders have got reportedly joined the fray for Woodson, who has otherwise gotten mostly scant interest being free agent this offseason.

Ian Rapoport of FOOTBALL Network reported Friday which Oakland has invited the 36-year-old defensive back to get a visit on Tuesday. Rapoport also reports of the fact that Denver Broncos, New York Giants and Carolina Panthers stop in play for Woodson.

If playing for the contender is truly Woodson's principal deciding factor, the Broncos, Giants and Panthers are able to each present rosters closer to playing in the Superb Bowl than that for the Raiders. And although Woodson said on NFL Network the following week (per Pro Hockey Talk) that he'd play for any person now, you'd have to assume his preference will still lean the manner in which of the better roster.

It is equally very possible that that Raiders would balk at getting yourself into even a mini-bidding struggle for Woodson, given your current salary cap state of affairs. According to Over your Cap, Oakland has less than $4 million in cap room for any 2013 season.

However if the Raiders could both convince Woodson to all over again play for a rebuilding project inside Bay Area and agree on contract numbers, such a reunion might mutually beneficial.

Woodson could play a maximum amount of snaps in 2013 in a roster riddled with cry, while the Raiders would obtain a veteran leader— and one familiar with general manager Reggie McKenzie— that will help guide a franchise on the rebound.

Back in 1998, a struggling Raiders franchise drafted Woodson together with the fourth overall pick. A good Heisman Trophy winner with Michigan, Woodson entered the NFL with so much fanfare and natural abilitie as any cornerback since Deion Sanders in the late 1980s.

Simply by 2001, Woodson had already walked the walk in Oakland. He was titled to four Pro Containers and three All-Pro competitors in his first four years, and the Raiders increased from 4-12 in 1997 so that you can 8-8 in both 1998 along with 1999.

After a run of just three playoff appearances in 14 years before the 2000 season, the Raiders were finally back between the NFL elite.

The post-Super Toilet hangover hit Oakland hard, as the Raiders triumphed in just 13 games in the next three seasons. Woodson's attitude  deteriorated  for the reason that losses piled up. Just by 2006, Woodson and the Raiders were happy to move on.

After signing a free-agent tackle the Green Bay Packers inside the spring following 2005, Woodson would take to win a Defensive Player of the Year award in yr and his first Excellent Bowl ring in Feb . of 2011.

Right now, Woodson has a chance to bring all the maturation and wisdom he gained in Green Bay for a franchise still searching for its own identity. The Raiders may not turn into a perennial playoff competitor under Woodson's watch, but he will help point the Oakland locker room during that direction during his remaining NFL career.

Keep in mind, the Raiders will enter 2013 over the heels of 10 upright non-winning seasons. There's small harm in McKenzie contributing some winning culture to be able to his rebuilding effort.

Woodson would likely instead play for Super Bowls in the final analysis of his Hall of Fame career, but what could sentimental value in returning to Oakland and helping the Raiders climb out of cellar once again.
