Giants’ Jeremy Affeldt Foolishly Given Extra $500, 000 In Contract, Gives It Once again.

Those moments whenever you sign a contract are dramatic in a reason — whether it's for the mortgage, a marriage license or selling your soul to your devil. Once ink gets paper, it's all around. Except, that is, when you're Jeremy Affeldt.

The San francisco Giants' reliever signed a contract this year which, upon further assessment, gave him $500, 000 above the amount that was arranged. But despite experts telling him he was legally within his rights to remain it — including a good Giants assistant GM — Affeldt made a decision to give the money oh no- the team.

The story arrived at light in Affeldt's book, To Stir a Move, which came out within April. Henry Schulman, the Giants beat writer to your San Francisco Chronicle, noticed the story and wrote about this today.

"I talked to [Giants assistant GM] Bobby [Evans] the next time and said, 'I can't get that money, ' " Affeldt said. " 'I won't sleep well at nighttime knowing I took that money because each time I open my paycheck I'll know it's not right. ' "

Affeldt signed an alternative three-year, $18 million deal previous winter and said they believes the negotiations journeyed smoothly and quickly because of the residual good feelings within the 2010 experience.

Affeldt is active in many charitable organizations, among all of them Generation Alive, which tells people on social justice issues, and Not 4 Sale, which provides medical attention to children in Thailand.

Mike Amick I'm on this way, Bob... RT @bcondotta: Tornado alerting over. Hopefully they extend your bar hours to replace lost time.
