THERE was only 1 individual in Charlie Adam's thoughts as he celebrated his purpose against Norwich on Saturday. Adam's father, Charlie elderly, died, aged 50, in December. The outpouring of emotion was obvious as the midfielder netted and then looked to the sky. THANKS A LOT: Stoke's Charlie Adam thanks the fans for his or her support after scoring the only goal of the overall game on Saturday. He said: "It is been a difficult time. It is since I lost dad the initial goal I have scored. When you can get on the pitch it provides a lease to you of life. It's just great to score and it's often about him and it is difficult when I'm on the frequency. "He is definitely been an effect in my own profession. Once you obtain a purpose and opportunity that way it's hard to go by. I hopefully there's much more in the future and know he'll be watching. myprint-247 Printing voucher Our heavyweight cards have FREE UV silk layer, FREE next day delivery & VAT included. It is some of those things once you lose somebody like this, it is a psychological time. "But for me the only chance of getting on with life is on the football pitch and I've managed to do this. Hopefully as I can I can get yourself a function in the group now, try to report as numerous objectives and help the team." Adam says they can understand just why people may possibly have the family tragedy affected him on the message. He said: "That is just a fair comment, but I have had to bide my time, take a seat on the sidelines and watch and it's been hard. "I am one of these brilliant people who would like to play each week, but it is great to get an opportunity to get back in the staff again. Today ideally getting over 40 points could be great. "We have got tough games coming up, but we're looking towards them." Adam has started City's last three games, but has been in and out of along side it since his A4m move from Liverpool on August 31. He said: "It is been hard. I've most likely not played as much as I'd like. "I regard the boss, what he thinks and what he does. At the end of the afternoon the most important thing could be the soccer team, no individual. "The most critical point is that we survive in this league. An opportunity has been got by us to do that now and hopefully we can do that in the next handful of weeks." The target was Adam's third of the growing season and was scored as he broke into the region, linking with Peter Crouch's header to drill the ball past Canaries keeper Mark Bunn. Most of Adam's Stoke games have been played behind the striker in Tony Pulis's preferred 4-4-1-1 system, but for the past two fits the Scot has been applied to the right of midfield. He said: "The two strikers did well to block and protect the defenders down and I were able to nip inside. That is what you can do from that side of the pitch, you can come in from the touchline. "I managed to have it in and I am only happy we managed to win the overall game. "Any target is good. It doesn't matter whether it is just a tap-in or what. Hopefully the confidence may visit a few weeks. We've got a tough game away to Sunderland. "Away from your home we've not been as effective as we'd like, but we'll prepare yourself and ideally three things here will give us assurance for next week." Stoke looked in significant relegation difficulty following their defeat at home to Aston Villa a week ago, but City has been lifted by back-to-back wins, at QPR and at home to Norwich, to 40 points. Adam was always confident City would be safe, but confessed he could recognize people having doubts. He said: "After the Villa game it was not looking too good. We have finished within and it's not over yet. Another handful of benefits could be nice and it'd be nice to accomplish it in style."
